Distracted Driving Initiative

Yesterday afternoon officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s Traffic Division conducted an initiative in the downtown area directed at distracted drivers.  Within a 4 hour period a total of 6 charges were laid in relation to distracted drivers, two of them coming within 8 minutes of each other.

It was noted by one officer that one of the drivers stopped did have a Bluetooth wireless connection in the vehicle, however they were simply not using it.  The fine for using a handheld communication device while driving is $155.00 and the laws with regards to distracted drivers have been in effect for two years now.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have been enforcing this law on a regular basis and we remind the public of the dangers associated with distracted driving.  It is important to remember that when you choose to drive a motor vehicle, you are responsible for the safe and undistracted operation of that vehicle.

Arrest:
