Two charged for Causing Injury to an Animal

Yesterday, officers with the Patrol Services Section of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested two individuals, 35 year old Ronni Prpich and 36 year old Joseph Baxter of 46 Fish Hatchery Road and charged them both with one count of causing injury to an animal.  It is alleged that the two wilfully neglected to provide suitable and adequate care for a dog that they owned.  The dog was found in an emaciated condition at the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society on March 22nd of this year.  Both Prpich and Baxter will appear in court on May 27th.

Armed Robbery Update

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are still on the scene of an early morning robbery that occurred at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Great Northern Road.  It is now known that the suspect who entered the pharmacy was carrying what was described as a long barrelled handgun.  The suspect approached the victim outside of the pharmacy doors and threw a substance believed to be gasoline on the victim.  The suspect then demanded entry to the pharmacy using the threat of lighting the substance on fire.  The suspect fled the scene on foot and then got into what was described as a white Pontiac Grand Am that was waiting a short distance away on Blake Street.   Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to contact police immediately.

Armed Robbery This Morning

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently on scene at an armed robbery that took place just before 8:00 a.m. this morning at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy at 59 Great Northern Road.  A lone male in his mid to late 40’s entered the pharmacy armed with what is believed to be a handgun.  The male demanded and obtained some items from the pharmacy.  He is described as being 6’ tall and 185 lbs.  He was wearing a green touque and a beige coat with a mask over his face.  It is believed that the male left the scene in a white car, possibly a Pontiac Grand Am that was waiting up the road on Blake Street.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service as soon as possible.

At approximately 11:30 pm last night officers responded to Queensgate Blvd where a vehicle struck a fence.  Officers attended at the accident scene and arrested the female driver of the vehicle. 55 year old Colleen Leppen of Anna Street was charged with impaired driving, failing to supply a breath sample, and assaulting a police officer. Ms. Leppen will appear in court on May 27th, 2013.

At 12:15 am officers stopped a motor vehicle on Central Street by Wallace Terrace. The 43 year old driver of the vehicle, Steven Francis of MacKenzie Avenue was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol in his blood. Mr. Francis is scheduled to appear in court on May 27th of this year.
