Numerous Fraud Charges Laid Yesterday morning the Sault Ste Marie Fraud Office arrested a 40 -year-old female and charged her with several fraud related charges.

Yesterday morning the Sault Ste Marie Fraud Office arrested a 40 -year-old female and charged her with several fraud related charges.It is alleged that between January 2005 and April 2nd the accused opened several bank accounts throughout the city and then began to deposit counterfeit cheques into these accounts. The accused also wrote numerous worthless cheques and deposited them into these accounts. The accused would then withdraw money from her accounts. The total value of the Frauds is approx. $54,000.00. Charged with Three counts of Fraud Over $ 5,000.00,Two counts of Attempted Fraud Over $ 5,000.00 and 14 counts of Uttering Forged Documents is: Laurie Archer, age 40, of 94 Allard St. She will be appearing in Bail Court this morning at 10:00 AM.

Fraudulent Use of Credit Card Data

Yesterday afternoon at approx. 1:30 PM the Sault Ste Marie Police Fraud Office charged a 43-year- old female with: Fraud Over $ 5,000.00, Theft Over $ 5,000.00 and Fraudulent Use of Credit Card Data. It is alleged that, between November 2004 and February 2005, the accused, who was employed by the victim as a caregiver, withdrew in excess of $ 5,000.00 from the victim’s bank account. The theft of money was carried out by the use of the victim’s ATM card. The victim in this incident is a 92-year-old female. The accused Tammey Lee Artuso of 4 Huntington Pk Apt. # 1 will be appearing in court on Monday May 16th at 9:00 AM to answer these charges.

Break and Enter

Early this morning, at approx. 1:30 AM, a resident of the 100 block of Lake St. was awakened by two persons trying to break into her residence. Police were called and a search of the area was commenced for the suspects. At approx. 1:55 AM two persons were arrested and charged with Break and Enter, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of Housebreaking Tools and Mischief. One accused 18-year-old Linus Eugene Southwind of 67 Walnut St. will be appearing in court on Monday May 16th at 9:00 AM. The second accused a 16-year-old youth will be attending court on Tuesday May 17th at 9:30 AM. The Police Canine Unit assisted in the arrest of the two accused persons.
