YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
On April 1, at a Shafer Avenue residence at 12:50 pm, the accused, a 17-year-old male was angry at his 14-year-old stepbrother over a wallet. During the argument, the accused hurled a yo-yo at the victim, missing him. The argument then escalated and the accused went across the room and assaulted the victim.
He punched the victim three times in the rib area and two times on the forehead causing the right forehead area to swell and bruise. Also the victim's rib cage became very sore. The accused turned himself into police on April 9 at 1:25 pm. He has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and will appear in court in early May.
YOUTH SETS FIRE TO TRUCK
On Tuesday, April 8, at approximately 4:30 pm, the accused, a 14-year-old male from Pittsburgh Avenue set fire to a 1989 Western Star Transport owned by the victim, a 42-year-old male. The vehicle was parked unattended at a Central Street address. It was valued at between $20,000 and $30,000. The fire caused substantial damage to the vehicle.
Yesterday, after a brief foot chase through the Bayview neighbourhood, the accused was arrested by police officers and transported to the Police Services Building. Upon search of the accused, bankcards in the name of females were found in his shorts pocket. He has been charged with two counts of Possession of Stolen Property and one count of Arson-Disregard for Human Life. He will appear in court at the end of May.
CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING
Yesterday at 7:40 pm, the accused, Reginald Paradis, age 55 of 308 Beverly Street, was driving a 1987 Ford Ranger in the area of the 500 block of Second Line West when another driver cut him off. Paradis took evasive action, jumped a curb, hit a snow bank and then hit a utility pole, breaking the pole.
Police attended at the scene of the collision and noted that the accused displayed obvious signs of alcohol impairment. Police Officers arrested and charged the accused with Impaired Driving and Driving Over .08. He will appear in court on May 26th.
DRUG BUST
Yesterday at approximately 5:30 pm, police officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit and officers from the Emergency Service Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at residence in the 100 block of Albert Street West.
Upon entry, officers located Michel Gregoire, age 21 of 130 Albert Street West #3, Jason Gregoire, age 18 of 250 Albert Street West #504, Joshua Barbosa, age 21 of 154 Albert Street West # 5 and Jesse Wissell, age 21 of 130 Albert Street West # 1 inside the residence.
A search yielded 8 grams of cocaine, 7.2 grams of hashish, 47 grams of cannabis resin (hash oil), 5.8 grams of cannabis marijuana and 6 hash oil spliffs and $285.00 in cash.
Police arrested and charged all the above noted occupants each with four counts of Possession For The Purpose Of Trafficking, two counts of Possession Of A Controlled Drug and one count Proceeds Of Crime. Street value of drugs seized was estimated at $2030.00.
Jason Gregoire was on probation at time of the offence and breached it by failing to keep the peace and be good and not possess non-prescribed drugs. He faces the additional charge of Breach of Probation. They will all appear in court on May 26th.
