Sault police have charged a 17-year-old with assault after a child was followed into a public bathroom and grabbed by the throat.

Police say the incident occurred in the 600-block of Black Road on July 27. The suspect fled the scene by the time officers arrived, police say.

The following day, police say a witness spotted the accused in the same restroom. Officers were dispatched to the scene again and an arrest was made.

The teenage suspect, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released on an undertaking and is due back in court on Oct. 3.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
