A car in a ditch on Fourth Line West led to multiple charges against a 37-year-old Sault Ste. Marie woman — who was allegedly driving while suspended and refused to provide a breath sample to police.

Police say they were called to the collision scene in the 200 block of Fourth Line West around midnight on May 10.

"The driver, later identified as the accused, was able to get out of the vehicle and did not require medical attention," reads a news release issued this afternoon by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. "Upon speaking with the accused, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Officers attempted to get the accused to provide a breath sample into an approved device, but the accused was unable to provide a suitable breath sample."

It is further alleged that the woman was a suspended driver and that the vehicle did not have insurance.

Stacey Raymer is charged with:

• Failure or Refusal to Comply with Bodily Substance Screening Demand
• Drive Motor Vehicle while Under Suspension – Under Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to return to court on June 5. None of the allegations against have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
