Police say a staff member at a local business was bitten while trying to stop someone from stealing.

Sault Ste. Marie Police arrested 37-year-old Shasta Leziert for robbery after the incident, which took place on July 8 around 1 p.m.

The accused allegedly went into a business in the 200 block of Wellington Street West and tried to leave with unpaid merchandise.

When a staff member stopped them, it is alleged that the accused bit the staff member and left the store with multiple items.

Police located Leziert later on Brown Street, and charged them with robbery.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 12.
