On May 24, 2015 at approximately 12:30 p.m., City Police attended in the area of the Hub Trail at Fort Creek in regard to a bear sighting. The bear had departed prior to police arrival.

On May 24, 2015 at approximately 12:30 p.m., City Police attended in the area of the Hub Trail at Fort Creek in regard to a bear sighting.  The bear had departed prior to police arrival.  The Service would like to remind the public to be aware that bears may be around these areas and to exercise caution.  The bears will typically avoid human contact and will make their way back into the bush if left undisturbed.

On May 24, 2015, at approximately 11:26 a.m. City Police officers from the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Unit, Patrol Services, Criminal Investigation Unit and Canine Unit commenced a track of a male in the area of Nixon Rd. in relation to suspected break and enters.  After a 3 hour track, a male was apprehended and arrested at 2:40 p.m.  He is currently charged with possession of stolen property and the investigation is ongoing at this time.  He will be appearing in Bail Court on May 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

On May 23, 2015 City Police Officers were called to the area of James St. and Albert St. regarding a suspicious vehicle.  Patrol Officers checked a male in the vicinity of the park on James St. The male was found to be on court ordered conditions not to be in parks or where children might be.  William Logan, age 70 of Korah Rd., was arrested and charged with Breaching an Order of Prohibition.  He will be appearing in WASH court on May 24, 2015.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has been receiving numerous complaints regarding increased noise and vehicular traffic at the north end of Old Goulais Bay Rd.

During the evening hours of May 23rd Patrol Officers checked several vehicles in this area. As a result of these vehicle checks officers arrested and charged a 16 year old youth with Possession of a Controlled Drug. The youth was found in possession of marihuana. The young person will appear in court on June 23rd.  Additionally five provincial offense tickets were issued to drivers of motor vehicles that were checked in the area.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is committed to reducing the complaints from this area. Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Police Service.
