City Police received one report of mischief to a vehicle this morning after the owner noticed that one side of their car was scratched. The owner advised the vehicle had been at several locations so it is unknown when or where the damage occurred.

City Police received one report of mischief to a vehicle this morning after the owner noticed that one side of their car was scratched.  The owner advised the vehicle had been at several locations so it is unknown when or where the damage occurred.

Three motor vehicle collisions were reported today with no injuries.  With the mild weather, citizens are reminded to still drive with care.  Some roads are snow packed with ice underneath.  The mild temperatures also result in melting snow which then freezes as the evening approaches.  Slow down and approach intersections with caution.

On February 23, 2013 at 8:40 p.m., members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team, Emergency Services Unit, Patrol Services and Canine Unit executed a search warrant at 819 Trunk Rd. Apt. 106, the residence of Richard Barton, 48 yrs. old.  Officers located a loaded, sawed-off 30 cal. Winchester rifle, ammunition and a prohibited knife.  Officers also located cocaine, Tylenol with codeine pills, a fentanyl patch, cutting agent, debt list, digital scales, cell phones and cash.  At the time of the offences, Richard Barton was prohibited by court order from possessing weapons.Barton has been charged with six firearms charges, possession of a prohibited weapon and three breaches of a court prohibition order.  He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He will be appearing in WASH Court later this morning.

On the 22 February 2013 Police were called to a residence in the P-patch.Police were able to secure evidence which showed the accused kicking and stomping at a dog. Charged with cruelty to animals and breach of probation is 20 year old Christian Patterson of 43 Panoramic Drive. The animal was seized by police and turned over to the Humane Society. Mr. Patterson will be appearing in WASH Court Sunday morning.

On the 15th February 2013 it is alleged 40 year old James Syrette entered a local grocery store where he concealed 3 packages of cheese and left the store without paying. Alert security staff apprehended him in the parking lot where the stolen items were recovered. Syrette was able to get free from Security and fled on foot. Surveillance video was provided to the police. The accused was arrested after being identified by police officers on the 22 February 2013. He was also found to have a surety revocation warrant for his arrest. He was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and escape lawful custody. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on the surety revocation warrant on Monday morning.

18 year old Benjamin Doiran of North Bay Ontario was arrested by City Police officers overnight and charged with resist arrest and possession of marihuana. It is alleged he was at an east end residence where he became unruly and when asked to leave the area he resisted officer’s attempts to have him removed. When searched after arrest Mr.Doiran was found to have Marihuana on his person. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 8th.
