It was an incredibly bad day for 19-year-old Jason Gilbert of Sault Ste. Marie. Police allege that Gilbert stole a 1990 Nissan last night from the 300 block of River Road. He is suspected of then driving to and breaking into a residence on Caesar Road where several items were taken. Also taken from a vehicle parked at that same address were a cell phone and stereo.

Two hours later, at 11:20 yesterday evening, Gilbert was involved in a traffic accident while driving the stolen Nissan. As a result of the accident, police determined that he was impaired and that the car was stolen. Police also found a quantity of illicit drugs. Gilbert has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, four counts of possession of stolen property, and impaired driving. More charges may be added later.
There were no injuries in the accident.
