Stolen crossbow recovered during First Avenue search

Officers recovered a stolen crossbow during a search of a First Ave. residence

Following a break and enter investigation that occurred in the Dacey Road area on Dec. 12, a search warrant was executed at a First Avenue address, a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states.

Investigating officers located a crossbow which had been reported stolen on Dec. 9.

The accused, 39-year-old Curtis Ingram, faces an additional charge as a result.

Dec. 15 update:
Further investigation into arrests made on Dec. 12, 2021 led officers with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit to conduct a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of First Avenue.

A subsequent search of the residence located a crossbow which was reported stolen on Dec. 9, 2021.

As a result of the search warrant, 39-year-old Curtis Ingram was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

He was held for bail court.

Original Dec. 13 release:
On Dec. 12, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Curtis Ingram and 26-year-old Tristan Vipond with break and enter.

Around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a break and enter in progress in the 0-100 block of Dacey Road. Upon arrival, officers observed a man flee the area towards the St. Marys River.

The Canine Unit was called out to assist in tracking the man. An initial canine track led officers to a truck parked in the area. Mr. Ingram was in the driver’s seat and officers observed a duffle bag which had been reported as used to take items from a garage in the 0-100 block of Dacey Road. Mr. Ingram was arrested.

Further tracking by the Canine Unit led officers to locate Mr. Vipond in the area and he was arrested. It is believed he went into the St. Marys River, EMS attended, and he was transported to hospital for treatment.

Mr. Ingram is charged with:
    •    break and enter
    •    theft under $5,000
    •    possession of property obtained by crime x2
    •    possession of break in tools

He was held for bail court.

Mr. Vipond is charged with:
    •    break and enter
    •    theft under $5,000
    •    possession of property obtained by crime x2
    •    fail to comply with undertaking – being outside residence

He was held for bail court.
