On Tuesday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 29-year-old man with breaking and entering.

Around 7:10 a.m., a 911 call reported an active break and enter to a resident’s detached garage in the 1200 block of Wellington Street East, a news release said.

“Upon arrival, officers located the accused asleep inside the garage. They were arrested. The accused and the victim are not known to one another," the release said.

John McKay is charged with:

  • Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and McKay is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
