Sleeping behind the wheel results in impaired driving charge: Police

Police have charged Aaron Beaulieu with impaired driving following an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon on Second Line West.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that the 35-year-old accused was found asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle.

Full text of the release follows:

On Nov. 21, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 35-year-old Aaron Beaulieu with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs.

Around 1:16 p.m., officers responded to a call of a man asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle parked in the 0-100 block of Second Line West.

Upon arrival, officers observed EMS on scene. Upon speaking with the driver, later identified as the accused, officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and later refused to comply with demand to provide a breathe sample into an approved device.

He is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs and refusal to comply with a demand. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17, 2022.
