A 37-year-old man was arrested today for allegedly attacking a person with a hammer and pipe last September.

The assault occurred on Sept. 7, 2023 in the 100 block of Albert Street East, sending the victim to hospital with “severe physical injuries,” Sault Police say.

Although an arrest warrant was issued, the suspect managed to elude police for six months — until earlier today, when officers executed an unrelated search warrant in the 100 block of Albert Street and located the accused inside.

Michael Finch, 37, is charged with one count of aggravated assault.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Finch is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
