'Significant police presence' reported in west end (update: area clear)

Police say one person has been taken into custody and that this remains an active investigation

Dec. 2 update from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

Around 10:55 p.m. significant police resources responded to a serious incident in the area of Douglas Street and Second Avenue. Police are now clear from the area. This remains an active investigation. One adult male has been taken into custody. Further details will be released as information becomes available.

There is currently a "significant police presence" in the Douglas Street and Second Avenue area of the city's west end.

"We urge community members to avoid the area to allow officers to conduct the investigation," says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
