Second person arrested in connection with October attack that involved a knife

In this incident, the accused and another individual, both unknown to the victim, attacked the victim by punching and kicking them to the ground while brandishing a knife

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service charged a 26-year-old man with assault with a weapon and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon after an incident that occurred on Oct. 22. 

The man was arrested and charged on Monday, Nov. 25 at around 3:40 p.m. when detectives patrolling Elliot Road saw the accused get into a vehicle and knew they had a warrant for his arrest in connection with an assault. 

“In this incident, the accused and another individual, both unknown to the victim, attacked the victim by punching and kicking them to the ground while brandishing a knife. The victim sustained minor physical injuries,” police said in a news release. 

On Monday, detectives conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle in which the accused was a passenger. The accused was arrested. "A search found the accused to be in possession of a prohibited knife."

Colin Wawia is charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

Wawia was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27, 2025. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Wawia is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
