School bus driver charged in morning west-end collision

Driver of motor vehicle was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries; none of the 26 people on the school bus were injured

A school bus driver has been charged with failing to yield after colliding with an SUV at the corner of John Street and Alexandra Street earlier this morning.

Sault Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit told SooToday the bus was heading westbound on Alexandra while the motor vehicle was travelling northbound on John.

The bus stopped at a stop sign, proceeded, and then struck the northbound passenger vehicle, said Louttit. 

The driver of that SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Sault Area Hospital.

Twenty-six people were onboard the bus at the time of the incident. None were injured.

Emergency crews had the scene cleared shortly after 9 a.m. 

Police do not release the names of people charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
