Sault Ste. Marie Police arrest man in connection to catalytic converter theft

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing

After receiving a report of someone attempting to remove a catalytic converter from a vehicle, Sault Ste. Marie Police have arrested Brandon Bennett.

He is facing charges of theft, mischief, possession of break-in instrument and breach of recognizance.

On Jan. 27, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 38-year-old Brandon Bennett with theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Around 3 a.m. officers responded to reports of a man attempting to remove a catalytic converter in the 800 block of Great Northern Road. Upon, arrival the man had fled the area. The investigation led officers to a parking lot in the 900 block of Great Northern Road where they located a man matching the description received earlier.

He was identified as the accused and arrested. A subsequent search found him to be in possession of a reciprocating saw. He is charged with,

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Possession of break-in instrument
  • Breach of recognizance

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
