The Auxiliary Unit is made up of dedicated volunteers who support the police service in many ways, such as assisting with events, training scenarios, and community engagement. Through their volunteer work, Auxiliary members can gain unique insight into the world of policing. They can even join officers on ride-alongs and see the job first-hand.

Are you curious about a career in policing? Sault Police’s Auxiliary Unit might be a good place to start – and you can now apply at age eighteen.
“Until now, applicants had to be at least 20 years old to join our Auxiliary Unit. We’re pleased to announce this age requirement change,” says Derek MacFarlane, Sergeant of Uniform Recruitment. “Eighteen is an ideal age to begin gaining experience, building connections, and exploring whether policing is the right path for you.”

Becoming an Auxiliary Constable has been an helpful starting point for many Sault Police Constables and Special Constables.
“I joined the Sault Police in 2017 as an Auxiliary Constable. In 2019, I became a Special Constable. Earlier this month, I was sworn in as a Constable,” says Cst. Nicolas Berlingieri. “Joining the Auxiliary Unit solidified my decision to pursue this career and the knowledge and experience I gained was invaluable in the application process.”
Auxiliary Constables must attend at least three events per month. Training and equipment will be provided at no cost.
