UPDATE: Weekend shed fire 'suspicious in nature,' police say

No one was injured in a Saturday night blaze that destroyed a shed

A weekend shed fire on Wellington Street East is currently under police investigation, says a spokesperson for the department.

Emergency crews responded to the fire shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, said Aaron Gravelle, public education officer with the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.

"There was no one inside the structure upon our arrival and there were no firefighter injuries to report," said Gravelle.

The blaze destroyed a shed behind a vacant home at 163 Wellington St. E.

Gravelle said the scene was transferred over to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. A police forensics van was observed at the scene Sunday morning.

Lincoln Louttit, spokesperson for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, confirms that police are investigating the fire.

"Detectives have been assigned to investigate the fire as it has been deemed suspicious in nature," said Louttit.

SooToday will provide more details as they become available.
