If you were scrolling Facebook on Friday you might have noticed something peculiar.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service posted a request for tenders from qualified companies to provide 180 9mm pistols.

As reported by SooToday in October, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was approved to take $245,000 from its capital reserve fund to purchase new 9mm pistols for all frontline officers and members of its Emergency Services Unit.

Chief Hugh Stevenson told reporter James Hopkin the current handguns being used are over 20 years old, and the police service has an opportunity to buy all new 9mm pistols in bulk.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 10.

On Friday, Chelsey Foucher, corporate communications assistant, said the police service has 153 officers, an amount that is "in flux as folks are hired/retire.”

Also on Friday, the police service posted a request for janitorial services to Facebook, which has the same deadline of Monday, March 10.

“All requests for tenders/requests for proposals are posted to our website and socials,” Foucher said via email.
