Sault Police arrest man linked to Peterborough homicide suspect

44-year-old found inside same Manitou Park house as wanted homicide suspect now faces multiple weapons charges; released from custody, he is due back in court in January

A second person has been charged in connection with a summer standoff with Sault police that ended with the apprehension of a man wanted for a 2022 homicide in Peterborough.

The accused killer, 34-year-old Eduardo Silva, had barricaded himself inside a Manitou Park home on Aug. 23. He was arrested two hours later “without incident,” police said at the time.

Initially charged with seven offences, including second-degree murder, Silva was later charged with 33 additional weapons-related crimes. Police say they seized three handguns, two high-capacity magazines and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

Sault Police now say a second person was inside the home with Silva, and after further investigation, they allege he had “involvement with the firearms seized.” A warrant was issued for his arrest

On Nov. 2, police say they found the man during an unrelated call in the 100 block of Farquhar Street and placed him under arrest.

Donald Robert, 44, is charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x2
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon x2
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x3
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x5
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition x3

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Jan. 8, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Robert is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
