Sault police have charged a 25-year-old with multiple crimes after responding to a report of a person "swinging a hatchet" at an employee of a downtown business.
Police say the incident began around 11 a.m. yesterday, when a person entered a business in the 200 block of Bay Street and left without paying for some items.
"An employee attempted to stop the accused after they exited the business," says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. "The accused began swinging a hatchet at the victim. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries and called police."
The suspect was located and arrested a short time later in the 200 block of Albert Street East. Police allege the suspect was carrying firearm ammunition.
Waasmo Bradford is charged with:
• Robbery
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
• Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order
• Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Device or Ammunition Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
• Breach of Probation
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
