A 38-year-old Sault man is accused of stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle's trunk on Thursday morning.

In a press release issued today, police say they received a call reporting the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the Trunk Road area.

Upon investigation, police say they developed grounds to believe the accused was a suspect.

He was later observed attending a business in the 200 block of McNabb Street, police say, and leaving without paying for items he had taken.

As a result of the two incidents, Brandon Bennett was arrested and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 18, 2021.
