A man wanted since the summer for hitting a person with a broom handle has been found and arrested.

On Aug. 27, Sault Police were called to a disturbance in 0-100 block of Willowdale Street. Officers determined that a suspect damaged the property of a person known to them — and hit another person, a stranger, with a broom handle.

An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, who had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

On Tuesday, Sault Police responded to another disturbance call in the same neighbourhood, where they found the accused and placed him under arrest.

Kyle Demmitt, 30, is charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court Jan. 22, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Demmitt is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
