A fire in a duplex in the 100 block on Cambridge Place early this morning sent three people to hospital. Fire crews got the call at 3:09am. When they arrived with City Police, they found the living room ablaze.
A fire in a duplex in the 100 block on Cambridge Place early this morning sent three people to hospital. Fire crews got the call at 3:09am. When they arrived with City Police, they found the living room ablaze. Three adult family members were in the house when firefighters arrived and had to be rescued.

One jumped from a second story window, one was brought down a ladder by firefighters and one was unconscious on the second floor. Two ambulances took them to Sault Area Hospital.

On firefighter suffered a pulled muscle in his leg but did not require medical treatment.

Platoon Chief Ernie Skinner, who was in charge on the scene, said fire damage was extensive in the living room area and there was heavy smoke damage throughout. The other side of the duplex had light smoke damage only.

The investigation has just begun. No cause has been established although the heaviest fire damage was in the living room. Sault firefighter were on the scene for two hours and had extinguished the fire quickly upon arrival.


Other than the fire, the City Police Service was kept busy with calls of a routine nature.
