Male Arrested in Homicide Investigation.
On August 8th shortly before 7:30 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a 911 call for assistance and located the body of a deceased female in a residence in the 300 block of Lake Street. The death was deemed suspicious in nature and police secured the residence.
Officers were able to confirm the death was a homicide late in the afternoon hours of the 9th of August.
Officers from Investigation Services have determined that the victim was a 42-year old female. Her name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
At approximately 2:15 pm on the 10th of August, 18-year old Johnathan Townsend of 379 Lake Street Apartment G-9 was arrested by officers from Investigation Services and has been charged with one count of Second Degree Murder.
He will appear in WASH (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) court on Sunday August 11th and is expected to be remanded to bail court on Monday August 12th.
The accused and the victim were known to each other.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would again like to reassure the public that this was not act of violence.
Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on this investigation. No further arrests are expected.

On August 10/2013 at 10:00 in the morning patrol officers arrested and charged Giuseppe Sardo, age 23, of 167 Tancred St for being unlawfully at large. Sardo failed to attend the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center for his intermittent sentence. He will be appearing in bail court Monday morning.
