A 30-year-old is in police custody after allegedly robbing the same person twice — once at gunpoint.
At around 2 p.m. yesterday, Sault police were dispatched to a report of a robbery in a multi-unit building on Sackville Road.
A victim told police that a person “verbally threatened to harm them with a gun before taking cash from them.” The victim also told officers that the same person robbed them in early July while pointing a black handgun.
Sydney Benwell is charged with:
- Robbery x2
- Point Firearm
- Using Firearm in Commission of Offence
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Breach of Probation x3
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Benwell is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
