A pot left unattended on a stove is thought to be the cause of an apartment fire Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Dacey Road at around 2:30 p.m.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services says when they arrived, they headed to the second floor of the building where a pull station had been activated and smoke was visible.

Crews were able to contain the fire and put it out.

No one was hurt, but there was some damage to the unit.

“Fire Services would like to remind all citizens to remain in the kitchen at all times while cooking and to ensure all cooking appliances are ‘turned off’ before leaving the dwelling,” Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services said in a news release.
