A weekend traffic stop has led to charges against a 25-year-old driver.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police saw a vehicle "swerving and driving erratically" while on patrol in the area of Wellington Street East and Bruce Street.

Police say the driver was given five chances to provide a suitable breath sample, but failed to provide one and was arrested.

Sanjeev Malik is charged with dangerous operation and failure or refusal to comply with breath demand.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on Oct. 7.

The allegations have not been tested in court and Malik is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
