Police say owner of dogs in Hillside Drive incident located

The owner of the dogs alleged to have been involved in the October 6 attack is cooperating

Late last month, we told you about a man who said his dog died after being attacked by what were then described as 'pit bulls'.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has issued an update, indicating three white dogs have been turned over to the Humane Society:

Update to dog incident on Hillside Drive

On the 13th of December 2016 at 4:30 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police assisted The Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society at an address in Bruce Mines with regards to an investigation under the Dog Owners Liability Act.

It is alleged that on October 6, 2016 three dogs owned by the accused attacked/bit a dog owned by the victim.  Officials with the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society continued attempts to identify and locate the owner of the dogs and on December 13, 2016 the owner and her dogs were located. 

The owner was very cooperative and gave possession of her 3 white canines to the Humane Society without incident. 

The owner was issued a summons under section 4 (1) (a) of the Dog Owners Liability Act for being the owner of a dog that has bitten or attacked a person or domestic animal. 

The owner was given a first appearance date in Provincial Offences Court for the 14th of December 2016.
