Police say officers found prohibited driver riding stolen motorcycle

Suspect, 29, tried to avoid arrest by running into a house which didn't belong to him and locking the door

A 29-year-old man prohibited from driving was charged for operating a stolen motorcycle by Sault Ste. Marie detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit.

Around 10 p.m. Thursday, detectives patrolling the 100 block of Alexandra Street saw the accused, who is prohibited from driving, operating a motorcycle which had been reported stolen. When detectives conducted a traffic stop, the accused ran into a residence which did not belong to them and locked the door. They refused to come out. The Emergency Services Unit was called to assist.

Officers with the Emergency Services Unit gained access to the residence and the accused was arrested.

Jesse Thorne is charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession of property obtained by crime – Over $5,000
  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • Fail to comply with probation order x2
  • Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Thorne is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
