On Monday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 30-year-old man with assault with a weapon.

Around 9:20 p.m., a 911 caller reported someone with serious physical injuries at a multi-unit residential building in the 500 block of Albert Street West.

Officers located the victim. An investigation revealed the accused had struck the victim multiple times in the head with a hammer, which resulted in what police described as serious physical injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment.

The victim and accused are known to one another.

Clinton Cadreau was located nearby and arrested by officers.

“A hammer was located and seized. The accused is charged with assault with a weapon and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing,” a news release said.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
