Police nab man carrying replica gun — and cheque book stolen in 2013

Spotted on Huron Street early this morning, suspect faces multiple charges

A 911 call about a person with a gun on Wellington Street West led to multiple charges against a 32-year-old — and the recovery of a cheque book that was reported stolen 10 years ago.

Sault Ste. Marie police were called to a multi-unit residence in the 200 block of Wellington Street West at approximately 6 a.m. today. The suspect was later spotted walking along Huron Street.

Police say a search of the person uncovered a replica handgun, three counterfeit $50 bills, approximately 11 grams of a substance believed to be heroin — and a cheque book that was reported stolen in 2013.

Brandon Zotter is charged with: 

  • careless use of a firearm
  • possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • carry concealed weapon
  • firearm or weapon: possession contrary to probation order
  • possession of property obtained by crime
  • possession counterfeit money
  • possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • probation order: non compliance (x3)
