Police looking for witnesses, video footage in death of 20-year-old visitor

Sault Police continue to investigate the sudden death of Colton Brown, who was visiting the Sault as part of a tour of northern campuses when he vanished over the weekend

Sault Police are looking for anyone who may have seen or spoken to a 20-year-old man over the weekend who was later found dead in the St. Marys River.

Colton Brown — a resident of Kasabonika Lake First Nation, a fly-in community 600 km north of Thunder Bay — was visiting the Sault with a tour group when he went missing near the Roberta Bondar Pavilion at around 4 a.m. Saturday.

As SooToday reported yesterday, the search for Brown ended in tragedy when his body was discovered in the St. Marys River.

Sault Police are now looking for anyone who may have interacted with Brown “or heard anything unusual” near the city’s waterfront.

Brown arrived in town on Thursday June 20 and was staying at the Delta Hotel. The following night, he left the building and never came back.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alerted the public of his disappearance shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“If you saw, or had an interaction with, Colton downtown during the evening of June 21 and/or into the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, or heard anything unusual, please contact police,” says a police news release issued today. “Community members are also encouraged to review security camera footage collected during that time frame.”

Brown was approximately 6-foot-1, slender, with black bushy hair. When last seen, he was wearing black shoes, black pants, a black coat, a blue and white shirt, a black hat and glasses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Alison Campbell at 705-949-6300 ext. 288.
