Sault Ste. Marie Police say they found a loaded sawed-off shotgun as well as eight people wanted on outstanding arrest warrants after executing a search warrant yesterday on Albert Street East.
Detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit, with assistance from the Bail Compliance Unit, Emergency Services Unit and Patrol Services, charged one person with several firearm offences. The eight other individuals wanted on warrants were arrested.
Police said detectives working on a firearms investigation executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Albert Street East shortly before midnight.
A total of 32 individuals were located inside the residence and placed under investigative detention, police said in a news release.
The other 23 individuals found inside the residence who were not charged were released unconditionally, police said.
Joseph Boyer, 30, is charged with:
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x6
- Careless Storage of Firearm or Ammunition x2
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x2
Boyer was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

35-year-old Janet Hodgson

37-year-old Michael Finch
- Aggravated Assault
- Held in custody pending a bail hearing.
37-year-old Ewan Crack
- Failure to Comply with Appearance Notice x5
- Held in custody pending a bail hearing.
33-year-old Brooklynn Armstrong
- Failure to Attend Court, Failure to Comply with Appearance Notice
- Released on an appearance notice and scheduled to appear in court on May 13, 2024.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and all of the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
