A 17-year-old youth faces numerous charges in relation to a weekend incident that involved a collision on Gore Street and heavy police presence on Wellington East.
A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service reports that accused was apprehended after two people were assaulted on Grandview Avenue and a car struck a building later that same morning on Gore Street.
The accused faces a number of assault, weapons, and robbery charges.
Full text of the news release follows:
On April 23, 2022, several people entered a residence in the 0-100 block of Grandview Avenue, assaulted two victims, stole some property, and fled the area. Two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.
The suspect vehicle was located later in the morning as it struck a building in the 100 block of Gore Street.
The Emergency Services Unit, along with the Canine Unit, was called to the scene and conducted a canine track which led to a residence in the 200 block of Wellington Street East.
A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody in relation to the incident on Grandview Avenue. A subsequent search found him to be in possession of ammunition and property reported stolen from the Grandview Avenue incident.
He is charged with:
• Use a firearm or imitation firearm in commission of an offence x2
• Pointing a firearm x4
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x3
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Breach of undertaking x4
• Discharge firearm with intent
• Uttering threats x2
• Assault with a weapon x2
• Assault causing bodily harm
• Robbery with a firearm x3
• Possession of stolen property
