Police charge 13-year-old with shooting pellet gun at stranger

Sault Police say the victim and the accused were not known to one another

A 13-year-old is facing charges after a pellet gun shooting late last night.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, someone called 911 to report a youth shooting a pellet gun at an adult in the 300 block of John Street.

Arriving officers located a suspect in the area of Wellington Street West and Boydell Place.

“Upon speaking with the accused, they revealed their pellet gun to officers. They were arrested,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

“The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. The victim and the accused are not known to one another.”

The teen is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on August 27.

The identity of the 13-year-old is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
