Sault Ste. Marie police are urging the community to report incidents of catalytic converter theft so that all can be investigated.

In a news release, police said the number of thefts continues to grow; 65 reports since September.

When it comes to protecting your vehicle, there are steps you can take to reduce the opportunity for crime to occur, police say.

If you can, park your vehicle in a secure area like a garage or fenced in area. Park in a well-lit location. Install video surveillance devices and/or an alarm system. Remove obstacles to allow greater visibility of your property, such as trimming hedges or trees.

Installing video surveillance devices effectively is an important tool when providing information to police regarding an incident of criminal activity. For tips on how best to install video surveillance devices on your property, please visit here

If there is an active incident, call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance. For non-emergency calls, or to report an occurrence you can call 705-949-6300 or use the Online Reporting System to report certain incidents of crime.
