Police have arrested 50-year-old Jerry Leveille in connection with the death of a woman in the James Street area.

He was arrested this afternoon around 3 p.m. in a residence in the 100 block of Wellington Street East, on the strength of an arrest warrant for second degree murder.

He was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, knowingly possessing an unauthorized weapon, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order, careless use of a firearm and pointing a firearm.

He was held for bail court.

Police had been seeking Leveille since May 25, when he was initially wanted on weapons charges. On Friday, the Sault Police announced he was also wanted for second-degree murder in addition to the weapons charges.

Police said on Friday that "it’s alleged the accused was in a residence with the victim, an argument ensued and he shot the victim. The victim died as a result of the gunshot wound."
