Plaque stolen from Esposito Park recovered, 41-year-old charged

The individual was arrested on Monday afternoon

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has charged a 41-year-old in connection with an investigation into plaques stolen from landmarks in the city.

On Monday, police charged the individual after receiving a report that someone was in possession of a stolen historical plaque in the area of Yonge Street.

Around 2:40 p.m., officers responded to the scene and found a person matching the description of the suspect.

Police say a search found them to be in possession of a plaque reported stolen from the 100 block of Central Park Avenue on July 13.

The plaque was recovered and the accused was arrested.

Rejean Carrier has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court in September.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
