Sault Police have nabbed yet another driver going way too fast on Black Road.

This time, a 52-year-old has been charged with stunt driving after a red pickup truck was clocked at 110 km/h — 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.

Like anyone charged with stunt driving, the driver faces an automatic 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, at their expense.

Because the charge was laid under the Highway Traffic Act, not the Criminal Code, Sault Police did not release the driver’s name.

The person’s case will proceed in Provincial Offences Court, where penalties can include a fine of up to $10,000, a mandatory driver’s licence suspension of 1 to 3 years, and/or a custodial jail sentence not exceeding 6 months.

If found guilty, the driver will also face increased costs for high-risk insurance, six (6) demerit points, and must attend a mandatory driver improvement course.

“Driving is a privilege and violating the law can result in you losing that privilege,” says a news release issued this morning. “Sault Police hope this incident will raise awareness of the potential dangers and personal and financial consequences of stunt driving.”
