Peterborough murder suspect charged with 33 weapons offences

Sault police say an accused killer who barricaded himself inside a Manitou Park home earlier this week was armed with three handguns, two high-capacity magazines and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

Police announced today they have laid 33 additional charges against 35-year-old Eduardo Silva, who was wanted in connection with a July 2022 homicide in Peterborough before being arrested Tuesday night following a two-hour standoff in the on Farquhar Street.

Silva was initially charged with seven offences, including second-degree murder.

He was re-arrested yesterday at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and charged with new weapons offences. They include:

  • unauthorized possession of restricted firearm (x3)
  • unauthorized possession of prohibited device (x2)
  • possession contrary to order (x12)
  • possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (x3)
  • possession of prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized (x2)
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (x3)
  • careless storage of restricted firearm (x3)
  • careless storage of prohibited device (x2)
  • possession of restricted firearm with ammunition (x3)

The accused is being remanded pending another bail hearing.

None of the allegations against Silva have been tested in court and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
