Early-morning patrol by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service led to the arrest of a driver locally.

Around 1:30 this morning, officers were patrolling Second Line West. Police say a vehicle was travelling over the speed limit and nearly crashed into a train crossing.

The officers stopped the vehicle.

An investigation led the officers to believe the driver was impaired by drugs and prompted a field sobriety test, which the driver failed. The driver was then taken to hospital to provide a blood sample for analysis.

As a result, Troy Cardiff, 38, has been charged with operation while impaired (drug and/or alcohol) and is scheduled to appear in court in late-August
