A 19-year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly kicking a police officer three times last night.

At around 8 p.m., someone phoned 911 to report an unwanted person refusing to leave a business in the 300 block of Bay Street.

When police arrived, they say the person was “yelling and screaming” and continued to refuse to leave.

“Although they resisted, officers gained control of the accused and they were arrested,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The accused attempted to kick officers twice when being removed from the police cruiser, and later kicked an officer three times.”

Jersey Belleau is charged with:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Causing a Disturbance

Belleau was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on March 11, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
