Charged with Assault, Mischief and Breach
A 38-year old male will appear in bail court this morning. On the 3rd of November officers from Investigation Services arrested the male and charged him with one count of assault, one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of mischief under $5,000, one count of breach of a release document and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. The incidents occurred between November 1st to December 31st of 2005 and again between July 1st and November 1st of this year. It is alleged that the accused held his estranged wife by the throat against a wall last year and also pushed her and punched her last year. It is alleged that earlier this year the accused assaulted the victim, damaged her apartment and threatened to kill her.
Sexual Assault on a Three Year Old
A 23-year old male was arrested on the on the 3rd of November by officers from the Investigation Services Section and charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching-under 14 years of age. It is alleged that on the 28th of October the accused did commit the offences on a three-year-old female known to the accused. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim. The male will appear in bail court this morning.
Charged after Assaulting Girlfriend
A 25-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested on the 4th of November and being charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of breach of probation and one count of forcible confinement. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of November 4th the accused assaulted his girlfriend while at a downtown residence. The accused allegedly punched the victim a number of times, choked her and threw her against a wall. It is alleged that the accused failed to let the victim leave the residence for a period of time. The victim was able to leave the residence after advising she had to go to the washroom. The victim received medical treatment as a result of this incident.
Consume Over the Legal Limit
21-year old Jonathan Gignac of 295 Government Road, Desbarats was arrested on the 4th of November just before 9 pm and charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. Officers from Patrol Services were westbound on Wellington Street East near Pine Street when they pulled up along side the vehicle that was being operated by the accused and noted that the driver was driving very slow. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver eventually pulled over on Wellington Street East and Simpson Street. It is alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested and charged. He will appear in court on December 11th.
Failing to Pay for Cab Results in Fraud Charges
44-year old Angie Trowbridge of 2-647 Wellington Street East was arrested and charged on the 5th of November in the evening hours with one count of fraud in relation to fare. It is alleged that the accused took a cab ride from and address on Bruce Street to her residence. The accused failed to pay for the ride and was subsequently charged. She will appear in court on December 11th.
Two Counts of Mischief
34-year old Shawn Holder of 2 Albert Street East was charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that on the 5th of November the accused broke a window at a residence on John Street by throwing a rock through it. Later in the day the accused caused damage to a room in the emergency room of the Sault Area Hospital by locking himself inside a room. It is alleged that while in the room the accused pulled ceiling tiles down and also broke a thermostat off of a radiator in the room. The accused will appear in court on December 11th.
City Police received a number of reports regarding break and enters over the weekend:
1) Two males were attempting to break into a garage on Bainbridge Street around 4:50 am on the 5th of November, but were scared off by the residents in the home.
2) Just after 9 am on November 5th City Police attended at another residence on Bainbridge Street and received information that a garage had been entered and tools were taken.
3) A residence on Walnut Street was entered overnight between the 4th and 5th of November but it is unknown what was taken.
4) A storage room of a residence on Huntington Park was entered between the 2nd and 5th of November. Thieves stole meat from a freezer and approximately 15 to 20 boxed set of hockey cards.
5) Between 11 pm on the 4th and 8 am on the 5th of November a garage was entered on Kitchener Road but nothing was taken.
6) Between the 27th of October and the 2nd of November a shed on Summit Avenue was entered and a $1600 mountain bike was taken.
7)A garage on Birch Street was entered between the 4th of November at 5:30 pm and the 5th of November at 5 pm. The owner is compiling a list of stolen items.
8) Just before 8 pm last evening another homeowner on Bainbridge Street reported a break and enter to their garage. Nothing was taken but the vehicle in the garage was spray-painted.
Vehicle & Pedestrian Accident
A motor vehicle collision on November 3rd between a vehicle and a pedestrian sent the pedestrian to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle operated by a 38-year old female was traveling westbound on McNabb Street. It is alleged that a 22-year old male crossed McNabb Street at Melrose Street and was struck by the car. The pedestrian was taken ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The pedestrian has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of pedestrian fail to use crosswalk.
