CARELESS DRIVING CHARGE

On the 6th of June City Police attended in the 400 block of Lake Street regarding a motor vehicle collision. 56-year-old Frances Irving of 82 Lake Street, Echo Bay was charged with careless driving after her car struck a parked car on Lake Street. Both vehicles received moderate damage.

SATURDAY FENDER BENDER

18-year-old Deana Juby of 37 Alfred Street was also charged on Saturday when she was involved in an accident at the intersection of Northern Avenue and Sackville Rd. Ms Juby was charged with turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act after she turned in front of a car driven by Giulia Savino of 43 Clergue St. Mrs. Savino received minimal injuries that did not require her going to the hospital. Both vehicles received moderate damage.

SOME NEVER LEARN

A 44 –year-old male will appear in bail court today after he was arrested on Saturday on outstanding warrants for assault and failing to appear in court. He was also arrested for breaching terms of his release document. City Police responded to the accused’s residence for a domestic related matter and subsequently arrested the male on the outstanding warrants. The breach of terms charge relates to conditions placed on the accused not to molest, harass or annoy the victim in this matter.

HERE’S ANOTHER ONE

23-year-old Martin Vine of apt M-3 at 772 Wellington St E will also be in bail court today facing charges of breach of probation and breach of a recognizance. Mr. Vine was arrested shortly after midnight this morning after City Police observed him outside. Mr. Vine was on a recognizance to be inside his residence from 9 pm to 7 am. His probation order had conditions on it to keep the peace and be good; as a result of he was charged with breaching his probation order.

AND ANOTHER, WITH ASSAULT CHARGES

A 39-year-old male will also be in bail court today facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation from a domestic matter on June 1st. It is alleged the accused kicked the victim in the head area with a steel-toed boot resulting in an injury, which required stitches. At the time of the incident the accused was on conditions from an undertaking not to communicate with the victim, as well as being on a probation order not to molest harass or annoy the victim.

ECSTASY SEIZED

On the 4th of June the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a search warrant at 3-128 Andrew Street. Warren Reid, age 23, and Richard Seaman, age 24, both of this address, were charged with possession of a controlled drug or substance after a small quantity of ecstasy was seized. Both males will appear in court on July 5th.

YOUNG OFFENDER

A 15-year-old youth will appear on court on July 13th after the youth was charged on Sunday with 2 counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault. It is alleged the youth assaulted another youth in the west end of the city by hitting the victim on 2 occasions with a paint ball pellet. The accused also punched the victim in the chest area. Injuries were minimal.

AND ANOTHER

A 17-year-old youth will also be in court on July 13th regarding mischief charges. It is alleged the accused walked across the hood of a vehicle in the area of Morrison Avenue on Sunday, leaving dents. Damage is estimated at $300.

STAY OFF THE TRAIN BRIDGE

On Saturday the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the CN Police teamed up for an educational/enforcement session regarding the train bridge area at the canal. During a 2 ½ hour period a total of 15 persons were observed committing infractions in regards to railway property. Four of the 15 people were seen to make no effort to move off of the train bridge even though the train light was visible. All 15 persons were given verbal cautions and were advised of the possible consequences along with the possible charge and the penalty.

The public is reminded that anyone found on the train bridge can be charged under the Railway Safety Act and could receive a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a period of up to 6 months in jail.
