Male Charged with Criminal Harrassment
47-year old Greg Phelan of 6-385 Cathcart Street will appear in court this morning after being arrested for an incident that occurred on January 13th. On that date it is alleged that the accused followed a female complainant in her vehicle and then at one point started to back his car up in an attempt to strike her car. This occurred at the intersection of Second Line East and Peoples Road. The female complainant was able to drive away without getting hit and called police. The accused and the complainant are known to each other. At the time of the offence the accused was on conditions not to molest, harass or annoy the complainant. The accused has been charged with one count of criminal harassment and two count of breaching a release order. He will appear in bail court today.
Male Charged with Assault
A 43-year old male will appear in court on February 28th after being arrested on Friday and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the male assaulted his common-law girlfriend on that date by pushing and slapping her. She did not require any medical treatment. The assault took place in their residence in the north end of town.
Male Charged with Theft
23-year old Tyler Wilkes of 3-157 Albert St E was arrested and charged with one count of theft under $5,000 on Friday. It is alleged that earlier in January the accused stole 2 guitars and a VCR from a west end residence and pawned the items. The items were located in a pawnshop and had been pawned without the owner’s permission. The male will appear in court on February 28th.
Male Charged with Mischief
42-year old Todd Petrie of 4-17 Boston Avenue was arrested on Friday after he damaged a lock and door on a home in the City’s east end. The accused and the complainant are known to each other. At the time of the offence the accused was also on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. Mr. Petrie has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on February 28th.
Break and Enter
An alert citizen on Bowker Street assisted patrol officers in arresting a male and finding stolen property. A homeowner in the 100 block of Bowker Street heard noises early in the morning of the 23rd and saw a male on their back deck. The caller watched the male go to other backyards in the area and called City Police. Police arrested 23-year old Allan Burns of 316-26 Terry Fox Place for one count of trespass by night. When officers searched the accused they found a Sony faceplate, a headset for a cell phone and a neck pillow on him. Officers were able to trace the property back to a vehicle that had been entered in the area. The accused has been charged with one count of trespass by night, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. He will appear in court on February 24th.
Male Charged with Dangerous Driving
24-year old Steven Perrault of Dafter, Michigan was arrested on the 21st of January and charged with one count of dangerous driving. City Police received a number of calls reporting the driving manner of the accused and spoke to a number of the witnesses. The driving including high rates of speed, weaving in and out of traffic and proceeding through red lights. This occurred in the Trunk Road and Wellington Street area around 1 pm on Friday. The accused will appear in court on February 28th.
News release on 20th
In the last 24 hours City Police responded to 21 motor vehicle collision calls. In the majority of the accidents, there were no injuries, minimal property damage and no charges laid. There was one accident with injuries that occurred on Trunk Road near the city limits last evening around 5 pm. The accident involved a pickup truck and a car. A car being operated by Barbara Espie of 368 Pine Island Road, Desbarats was disabled on the side of the road facing westbound and the rear of the vehicle was lodged in the snow bank. A pickup truck being operated by Andre Frenette of 187 Poplar Avenue, Sault Ste Marie was traveling westbound on Trunk Road when it collided with the car. Mrs. Espie was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Vehicle damage is described as moderate to severe. Officers from the Traffic Services Section are continuing their investigation into this matter and charges may be pending.
Update to accident
In relation to the above accident officers from Traffic Services have charged Andre Frenette with one count of careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
Reminder
City Police would again like to remind the public to slow down and adjust their driving to the road conditions out there. With the snow coming down and the icy condition underneath, allow yourself a little extra time. Getting into an accident is really going to make you late for arriving to your destination.
