Four People To Appear In Bail Court

1)Officers from Patrol Services, the Street Team and the Emergency Services Unit arrested 34-year old Jeffery Mayhew of no fixed address on February 24th in the afternoon in the downtown area. Information had been received that the accused was carrying a concealed firearm. When officers arrested the accused they located a loaded sawed off .22-calibre semi automatic rifle in his pants. Officers also located ammunition for the firearm in addition to 1 gram of marijuana. The accused had a knife on him as well. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation. Mr. Mayhew has been charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a located prohibited weapon, one count of careless storage or use of a firearm, one count of possession of firearms-no licence and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. (2) A 17-year old youth was also arrested in this incident. When police apprehended the youth they also learned there were outstanding warrants on the youth.

3)39-year old Warren McFadden of main floor 218 James Street was arrested by members of the Street Team and Patrol Services the 24th of February after officers stopped the accused, who was driving a vehicle, at the intersection of Allen Street and Cathcart Street. When officers searched the accused they located 75 morphine pills, on him. A further search of the accused at the police station revealed an additional 100 morphine pills. Officers also searched the accused’s residence and located 25 morphine tablets as well as approximately 2 grams of cocaine. The street value of drugs is estimated to be approximately $30,200. The accused has been charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance.

4)19-year old Tyler Seaton of 364 Albert Street West was arrested on the 24th of February and charged with two count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that the accused was in a vehicle in the downtown area and was with other persons he was on conditions not to associate with. The accused fled the area on foot but was apprehended by patrol officers.

Police Execute Search Warrant On Wellington St.

On the 24th of February at approximately 8 pm officers from the Street Team, Patrol Services and the Emergency Service Unit executed a search warrant in the 200 block of Wellington Street West in relation to stolen firearms. Officers located a number of persons in the residence as well as two .22 calibre rifles that had been stolen from a residence in January from the Thessalon First Nations Reserve. The firearms were not safely stored and none of the persons in the residence had any type of firearms licence to possess the weapons. 5 persons were arrested in the residence. Three of the accused allegedly resisted arrest and one of the accused assaulted a peace officer by kicking him as well as threatened to let go of a large dog in order to allow it to bite the officers. The accused are: 25-year old Patricia Recollect of 53 Manitou Drive; two 17-yr old youths (one youth was also arrested on outstanding warrants); 30-year old Kevin Perreault of no fixed address; 47-year old Glen Gumerson of #2-262 Wellington Street West. All of the accused will appear in bail court by then end of March.

Police Tend To Vehicle In Snowbank

40-year old Andrew Burgan of 134 Pentagon Boulevard was arrested on the 24th of February just after 8 am. Officers attended at the intersection of Eagle Drive and Gehrig Street for a vehicle that was stuck in a snowbank and that also caught on fire. When officers arrived they detected the smell of alcohol on the accused. The accused was given the breath demand and failed to provide a proper breath sample. When officers advised the accused that he was under arrest he began to resist arrest. The accused was charged with one count of resist arrest and one count of fail to provide a breath sample. The accused will appear in court on February 27th. Fire Services attended at the scene and extinguished the car fire.


Man Charged For Threats

44-Year old Gordon Stortini of Basement Aprtment-566 Albert Street West was arrested on the 25th of February and charged with two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused threatened to harm a male victim, who is known to the accused. The accused also stated that he would cause a significant amount of damage to property owned by the accused. Mr. Stortini will appear in court on March 27th.

Two Motor Vehicle Collisions

On Friday afternoon just after 1 pm officers from Traffic Services attended at the intersection of Bay Street and East Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A pickup truck operated by 30-year old Carole Hart of Pardee Avenue was traveling eastbound on Bay Street. A car operated by 44-year old Irma Sauvola of Kohler Street was traveling northbound on East Street in a car. It is alleged that the Hart vehicle failed to stop for the red light at the intersection and the two vehicles collided. Carole Hart was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-fail to stop. Vehicle damage is described as light to moderate.

At 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon officers attended at Queen Street East and Elgin Street for a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian. 55-year old Mary Mitchell of Victor Emmanuel Avenue was walking across Elgin Street on the walk sign. It is alleged that a pickup truck operated by 19-year old Kyle Neveu of Eastern Avenue was turning from Queen Street East onto Elgin Street when he struck the pedestrian. Mrs. Mitchell was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Neveu has been charged with one count of fail to yield to pedestrian.
