On Saturday morning at 8:30, police investigated a collision between a car and a locomotive at the Francis Street crossing. Officers noted that a Huron Central train was going east across Francis Street when it struck a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina that was going south on Francis.

The train was travelling at approximately 10 km/hr at the time of the collision. The car was pushed 73 meters down the track before it came to rest. The driver, Carmen Borghese, age 61 of 70 Grand Blvd., along with a 59-year-old female passenger, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is continuing.


YOUTHS STEAL VAN
Yesterday at 12:15 a.m., a 15-year-old male from Third Avenue and a co-accused 16-year-old male from Bloor Street and a 15-year-old male from Atwater allegedly committed theft by stealing a 1990 Ford Aerostar valued at $6,000 from JC's Automotive.

At 12:45 a.m., the accused was in possession of the stolen vehicle during a police pursuit. Police had observed the van failing to stop at a red light and a short pursuit followed.

The pursuit that reached speeds of 65 km/h terminated in the area of Pim and Wellington Streets when the van was blocked in by other vehicle traffic. No injuries or damages occurred. At 12:52 a.m., the young offenders were arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

The 15-year-old driver faces additional charges of possession of break and enter tools and failing to stop for police. The driver will appear in bail court today. The other young offenders will appear in youth court in early March.


MAN CHARGED WITH HARASSING WIFE
On Saturday, a 37-year-old male followed his estranged spouse in the east end of the city and attempted to get into her vehicle. The female victim refused. The accused also made several calls to the victim's family members questioning them about the victim.

Prior to this activity, the accused had made numerous calls to the victim over a period of two weeks continuing his harassing behaviour. Yesterday at 4:00 p.m., police went to his house, arrested him and charged him with criminal harassment. He will appear in court on March 10.


SHOPLIFTING
Yesterday at 4:35 p.m., David Powley, age 33 of 22 Copernicus Drive, allegedly took a spark plug belonging to Canadian Tire from the store without paying. As a result, Canadian Tire security followed and stopped Powley outside the store. He was arrested and charged by police with theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on March 10.
